HAGERSTOWN, Md. – Lance Dewease is getting more and more comfortable with his new 410 Sprints ride.
After weeks of working out the kinks with his No. 8 car, the efforts of his Dewease’s team paid off big last weekend. He took fourth in Saturday’s feature at Port Royal Speedway, before driving all the way to Victory Lane at Williams Grove Speedway’s season opener on Sunday.
For Fayetteville’s Dewease, a National Sprint Car Hall of Famer, it was his third opening-day win at the Grove, with his other victories coming in 1995 and 2006. Last weekend’s win, his 117th at the track, was worth $6,000.
Dewease was sharp from beginning to end on Sunday. He won his heat race, and then moved from third to first in the 25-lap feature over Dylan Noris and Justin Whittall. Dewease seized the lead on the ninth lap and went on to conquer the field by 0.890 seconds.
Dewease warmed up for Williams Grove with a strong showing at Port Royal. There, he won his heat race, before moving from ninth to fourth in the 25-lap feature.
Franklin County was well-represented on Saturday at BAPS Motor Speedway for Tod Stough Night. Treyton Lee, a 16-year-old from Mercersburg, won the Limited Late Models feature over Greencastle’s Scott Palmer and Elliottsburg’s Jaxton Garman.
Lee set himself up for success by moving from seventh to second in his eight-lap heat race. He drew the second-starting spot for the 25-lap feature and went on to surge to Victory Lane. Palmer claimed the runner-up spot after starting from the sixth spot.
