In the same year that Fairfield scrapped its varsity football program, the youth Knights have made a strong case for the future.
Fairfield’s youngsters had a banner season in the Capital Football Association Youth Football League, with all three of its teams — Peewees, Ponies, and Midgets — dominating play in the Liberty Conference. The Knights Pony team earned the ultimate honor, capturing the Super Bowl with a 16-8 victory over Shippensburg. It was the closest game of the season for Fairfield, which posted a 12-0 record and hammered opponents by a combined 432-57 score.
The Knights’ Midget team saw its campaign come to an end in the semifinals, but the squad had reason to celebrate as Tanner Packard was named as the Liberty’s Offensive Player of the Year. Packer was named to the CFA’s South All-Star team, and was joined on the squad by Aaron Benner, Hunter Miller, Drew Frank, Greyson Megee, Hunter Harlacher, and Emry Ebaugh.
Packer and the South secured an 18-0 victory over the North in last weekend’s All-Star game. Other members of South’s winning team included Chambersburg’s Tristan Osbaugh, Jet Temchack, EJ Fleming Jr., Mirra Harbaugh, Easton Dice, and Dax Helman.
The Washington County Junior Football League concluded its postseason with the championship round last weekend, and it was a sweep for Hagerstown teams. The Hagerstown Eagles conquered the Peewee final, while the Hagerstown Giants rolled to wins over the Williamsport Bears in both the Junior Varsity and Varsity title games.
