CVAS pet of the week: Gracie

CHAMBERSBURG – Looking for a new friend? The Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter is featuring these Pets of the Week. For more information, interested would-be pet parents may visit http://www.cvas-pets.org/ or call 717-263-5791.

Neptune arrived at the shelter after being found by a lost animal recovery team while looking for another dog. It was quite clear that there was something wrong with Neptune’s leg upon his intake. His right front leg was bent at an odd angle and caused him pain. He was radiographed and found that his leg was shattered and had gone long enough that it was healing but all wrong. We are not 100% sure how Neptune’s leg got the way it was but there was some evidence on the radiograph that showed at some point in time, he may have been shot, and it was a long time between that injury and his arrival at the shelter. Due to how bad the leg was it was determined the best course of action was to amputate his leg. Neptune underwent the amputation and has recovered well! He did test positive for a tick-borne disease called anaplasmosis but has undergone treatment for it. He is now ready to find his loving forever home. He did not take long to adjust to only having three legs, most likely due to him not using his injured leg for a very long time. Despite all that he’s been through Neptune is a happy guy who loves to go on walks. He is a true survivor and would love to find a home where he would never have to worry about being hurt again. He must meet all family members that reside in the home. Could you be Neptune’s savior? CVAS, 5051 Letterkenny Road West, Chambersburg, Kennel License 2090.

Gracie was surrendered to the shelter when her owner was moving and could not take her along with them. She is 7 years old and is a sweet girl. It has taken her a little time to get used to shelter life and does tend to stay in her cubby during the busy time of the day (as you can see from the picture). She will come out if you take the time to meet her and talk to her, though. Can you show Gracie her forever home?
