Carter McCauley and Abigail Eagler were leaps and bounds above their high school competition during their playing days for Greencastle-Antrim. Both entered the college arena as highly-touted prospects.
It’s a storyline that many college underclassmen athletes can relate to. But unlike the majority of their peers, who often need a season or two just to have a chance at seeing game action, McCauley and Eagler have been making an impact from the very moment they stepped on campus.
McCauley, a sophomore in his second full season starting at wide receiver for the Susquehanna University football squad, leads the River Hawks in both receptions and yards this fall. As for Eagler — Greencastle volleyball’s school record holder in career kills, career digs, season kills, and single-match kills — she is enjoying a standout freshman campaign for Bloomsburg.
In College Corner this month, we’ll take a closer look at the exploits of McCauley and Eagler, while also shining the spotlight on other former Blue Devils who are leaving their mark the next level. We’ve counted 35 athletes in all.
In the months to come, College Corner will shift focus to Chambersburg and Waynesboro, before circling back to Greencastle. Are we missing anybody? Additions for College Corner can be sent to Andy Sandrik via email at [email protected].
