Chambersburg moves to 2-1 at Senior Legion Tournament after narrow 4-3 defeat

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Chambersburg pushed Greater Pittston to the brink Monday but came up just short in a 4-3 loss on the third day of the Pennsylvania Senior American Legion state tournament.

Despite the setback, Chambersburg remained in contention as one of three teams with a 2-1 record, though it no longer controls its path after Greater Pittston improved to 3-0 and became the tournament’s lone unbeaten team.

Chambersburg took an early lead and showed resilience throughout. After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, it answered quickly in the second. Carter Zeger, batting ninth, delivered a clutch two-out, two-strike hit to drive in the go-ahead run and give Chambersburg a 2-1 advantage.

The offense continued to apply pressure, but Greater Pittston’s bullpen limited opportunities over the middle innings. Chambersburg managed just one unearned run against reliever David Fath, who worked three innings and allowed only one hit.

Still, Chambersburg remained within striking distance late. Trailing 4-3 in the sixth inning, Zeger again came through with two outs, lining a ball that appeared destined for center field. However, a leaping catch by shortstop Beau Widdick ended the threat and preserved the lead for Greater Pittston.

Chambersburg was unable to mount a final rally in the seventh inning, failing to put a runner on base as Silvio Giardina closed out the game.

Chambersburg’s loss sets up a critical matchup Tuesday against Phillipsburg.
