SHIPPENSBURG – The Waynesboro varsity boys’ basketball team put an end to a three-game losing skid by posting a 58-49 Mid-Penn Colonial Division win against the Shippensburg Greyhounds on Friday night. The Indians had to come from behind in this game as they trailed 32-26 at halftime. However, a strong second half propelled Waynesboro to the win. NEWVILLE – The Waynesboro varsity wrestling team made the trip to Big Spring High School on Thursday and came away with a 43-28 victory in a Mid-Penn Colonial Division meet. The Bulldogs jumped out to an 18-0 lead thanks to back-to-back forfeits at 107 and 114 pounds and a first-period pin at 121 pounds. But the Indians came storming back to win five straight bouts and eight of the final 10 matches to notch the win. SHIPPENSBURG – The Waynesboro boys and girls swimming teams returned from Christmas break in top form on Wednesday evening. The boys’ team dominated on its way to a 136-40 victory. The Indians won every event and swept four of them. JB Bonner led the way in the 100-yard butterfly as he won with a time of 1:00.41. Cello Dimino placed second, and Riley Morgan completed the sweep with a third-place finish. GETTYSBURG – The Waynesboro varsity boys’ basketball team started 2024 on the road as they played Gettysburg. It was pretty much all Warriors in this Mid-Penn Colonial Division contest as Gettysburg led 17-13 after the first quarter and distanced itself in the final three quarters en route to a 67-50 win. Gettysburg, which led 36-27 at halftime, used five three-point field goals to help its cause. The Waynesboro varsity wrestling team headed into the Christmas break with its second home meet of the season on Tuesday, Dec. 19 against South Western in a non-conference matchup. After having to forfeit three bouts (107, 114 and 215), the Indians needed to string a bunch of wins together to overcome the 18-0 deficit. WAYNESBORO – The Waynesboro Area Senior High School boys’ and girls’ swim teams each improved to 2-0 on the young season following wins against Northern York on Tuesday afternoon in Md-Penn Colonial Division action. The ‘Boro boys won all three relay races and all eight individual events en route to the lopsided victory. On Tuesday, the Tribe lost a 48-46 decision to Big Spring in a Mid-Penn Colonial Division game. Waynesboro nearly pulled off a comeback as it entered the fourth quarter with a double-digit deficit.
