Ben Roethlisberger was to the Pittsburgh Steelers as Tom Brady was to the New England Patriots and Aaron Rodgers is to the Green Bay Packers. The Packers should take a long look at what Rodgers chooses to do in the offseason; because, Green Bay is a winner as long as Rodgers is on the roster. The future of the Pittsburgh Steelers is in limbo, much like the franchise experienced when Terry Bradshaw retired in the early 1980s. Who would have thought that Roethlisberger, a product of Miami University (not the one from Florida), would become a franchise quarterback for nearly…

Altoona standout Gracie Weaver took home wins on three events and in the all-around. Altoona also took the next three all around places. “Altoona is one of the strongest teams in the state,” said Waynesboro coach Amy Dennis. “We had to chase them all evening and unfortunately we weren’t on our A game.” Vault was a bright spot for Waynesboro. It was the only event that Waynesboro scored higher than Altoona. Waynesboro junior Jenna Geesaman tied Weaver for the vault win with…

WAYNESBORO – The Waynesboro varsity wrestling team had the advantage in numbers, but head coach David Swink knew at the outset how important bonus points were going to be when the Indians hosted the Shippensburg Greyhounds Thursday in a Mid-Penn Colonial Division matchup on Senior Night. It turns out that the bonus points registered by Jayden Rooney, Bodie Rouzer and Kaden Rouzer were very important. Rooney worked for a 16-1 technical fall in the 120-pound bout, while Bodie Rouzer recorded a first-period pin at 138 pounds and Kaden Rouzer wrestled to a 18-1 technical fall at 145 pounds to help…

This is the first year they are competing for their school. They get to compete and win meets. They are very excited about the team aspect this…

Waynesboro hosted South Western in a non-conference meet in a special Pink Out night at the home gym. The Indians defeated the Mustangs, 45-27, but wrestling was only a part of what transpired on an emotional evening. Prior to the start of competition, the following words expressed the tone of the past couple weeks as the Rouzer family – husband and…

When I think of the NFL playoffs, I think about the Purple People Eaters, the No Name Defense, the Hogs and the Steel Curtain. I don’t think about individual players. I think about the units (the defensive and offensive lines, the secondaries) that enabled the skill players to do what they do. Take away the Hogs, and players like Joe Theisman, John Riggins and the Smurfs would not have three Super Bowls. While most of the talk on sports shows centers on individual players, the game of football is an 11-on-11 game, not 1-on-11. Which is why I like the…
