WAYNESBORO – The Waynesboro varsity softball team has hit a rut. After winning seven games in a row, the Maidens lost to Shippensburg on Tuesday 4-1. On Thursday, the outcome was even more dire. Big Spring, which entered the game tied with Shippensburg with an 11-2 Mid-Penn Colonial Division record, had 18 base runners in a game the Bulldogs won, 10-0. The win avenges a 9-8 loss earlier in the season in Newville. “Our defense has been pretty solid,” said Waynesboro head coach Steven McElroy. “It wasn’t there today. You commit five or six errors and you’re not going to…

Forrest Rhyne didn’t get drafted by a team in the 2022 National Football League draft, but that doesn’t mean he will not get his long-awaited chance to earn a spot on a roster. Rhyne, a 2017 graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School, signed with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent on Saturday, ending at least some of the gut-wrenching speculation over whether or not the Villanova University standout linebacker will get his foot in the door in professional football. WAYNESBORO – It took a month for the Waynesboro Indians and Greencastle-Antrim Blue Devils to get their Mid-Penn Colonial Division game in the books. After it was completed, the Tribe might have looked back and been grateful that their late-March game against the Blue Devils was scrapped. Waynesboro overcame a 1-0 deficit by scoring seven runs in the home third and then added two runs in the sixth to notch a 9-2 victory Saturday at Robinson Field. In the meantime, what was to be the teams’ second game between each other came and went, and Waynesboro had to face a…

WAYNESBORO – If you like pitching and defense, this probably wasn’t the game for you. Waynesboro’s 13-6 victory over James Buchanan on Thursday afternoon at Robinson Field didn’t exactly make for a good game to pad the Earned Run Average stats. Instead, it was hits – and some errors – that helped the host Indians overcome a 3-0 deficit and turn a close game into a one-sided contest. Waynesboro beat James Buchanan 11-1 in their previous meeting in Mercersburg. The Tribe came close to doing it again, as they scored six runs in the sixth inning to turn a 7-5…
