WAYNESBORO – Baseball season for high school age players doesn’t end, at least for some, at the end of May or early June. When Waynesboro Indians players turn in their black, blue and white uniforms at the end of the spring season, the transition from high school to American Legion baseball is quick – in fact, a little earlier this year than hoped for. The WASHS baseball team finished the season last Monday with a 5-2 loss to Ephrata in the first round of the District 3-5A playoffs, and, while some move on to Colt League, travel ball or time…

You might say the Waynesboro Maidens varsity softball team made a hard slide into the District 3-5A playoffs – and somehow made it before the tag. Two weeks ago, the Maidens were sitting pretty at the eighth spot in the District 3 power rating. But a four-game losing streak to end the season nearly put an end to the team’s goal of reaching the postseason. When Waynesboro lost to Mechanicsburg last Wednesday, it seemed like all hope was lost and the Maidens would spend the offseason making summer plans. But when the final power rating was posted Thursday night, Waynesboro…

Waynesboro (12-6), which entered the game ranked 17th (and out of the 16-team field), defeated Class 6A Chambersburg, 3-0 and checked in at 13th in the final power rating. The Tribe took care of 6A Harrisburg, 17-2, last Friday but its chance of making the postseason hinged on Wednesday’s game at Chambersburg. Waynesboro will play a first-round game at fourth-seed Ephrata (14-6) on Monday, May 23. First…

The Waynesboro Indians varsity baseball team captured a must-win victory last Wednesday against Chambersburg. Garrett Beaver, the team’s ace pitcher who finished 8-2 with 66 strikeouts and just 10 walks, struck out 10 batters through the first five innings and held Chambersburg to a single hit en route to a 3-0 win at Greene Township Park in Scotland. The Tribe (13-7) was rated 17th at the time and out of the field of 16. The win boosted head coach Travis Hardman’s team to 13th and a first-round matchup with fourth-seed Ephrata (14-6) at War Memorial Field in Ephrata. “I honestly…

WAYNESBORO – It wasn’t graduation, but the gathering of about two dozen Waynesboro Area Senior High School student-athletes was a celebration of a future about to be embarked upon. Pictures Plus was on hand to take pictures of the student-athletes as they signed their mock Letters of Intent to their respective colleges. It was a proud moment for the families of the young men and women putting their signatures on their near-term futures, as student-athletes representing a variety…

WAYNESBORO – Sometimes you feel like you just can’t catch a break. The Waynesboro and Chambersburg varsity softball teams both have experienced that gnawing feeling. Chambersburg (14-5) started the season with an unblemished 12-0 record. Waynesboro, which has trademarked bunching up runs, hasn’t been able to buy one lately. The Maidens lost to Shippensburg on Tuesday, 4-1. On Thursday, Big Spring came to town and beat Waynesboro, 10-0. On Friday,…
