WAYNESBORO – In a league dominated by the likes of Northern York and Greencastle-Antrim, the rest of the Mid-Penn Colonial Division has been characterized by an “any given night” scenario in which teams haven’t created any separation between each other and can be beaten by any other team. On Tuesday night at Waynesboro Area Senior High School, the Waynesboro Maidens faced off against such a team in the Shippensburg Lady Greyhounds. Head coach Heidi Shaull’s team, coming off a season sweep of Gettysburg (37-34 in Gettysburg), lost 40-35 to the Lady Hounds in Shippensburg earlier this month in a game…

WAYNESBORO – When Waynesboro Area Senior High School wrestling coach David Swink pieced together probable matchups from Thursday night’s meet against visiting West Perry, the final score he came up with was actually worse than what the Indians finished with. Waynesboro’s lone win in a contested match during a 55-12 Mid-Penn Colonial Division loss came from senior Garrett Lowans with a first-period pin in 1:13 in the 152-pound match.. The 2022-23 season belongs to the Mustangs from Perry County. Having already beaten perennial contender Boiling Springs, West Perry dispatched Waynesboro with ease in front of a Senior Night crowd. “We…

WAYNESBORO – It wouldn’t be basketball season without Pack the House Night. And boy did they pack the house. In what has become a much-anticipated night on the Waynesboro Area Senior High School basketball schedule, both boys’ and girls’ varsity teams defeated Big Spring on Friday night in front of, you guessed it, a packed house. The centerpiece for the game is the students, who made up a healthy portion of those in attendance. The crowd of boys and girls from Fairview, Hooverville, Mowrey and Summitview elementary schools, Waynesboro Area Middle School and the high school made for a loud…
WAYNESBORO–The Waynesboro Area Senior High School varsity boys’ basketball team knew going into Tuesday night’s Mid-Penn Colonial Division showdown against Norther York that the Polar Bears – with the exception of the Indians’ lone loss against Cumberland Valley – represented their most challenging opponent. Waynesboro wasn’t disappointed. In a game that saw Northern York hold Waynesboro to 16 points in the second half and outscoring the Tribe 16-8 in the fourth quarter, head coach Tom Hoffman’s team somehow held off a furious rally in the waning seconds during which Waynesboro missed crucial free throws and the Polar Bears drew closer…
WAYNESBGORO – The Waynesboro Area Senior High School boys’ and girls’ swim teams had a busy week, competing in a double dual on Tuesday and against a talented Trinity team on Thursday, both held at the Waynesboro Area YMCA. On Thursday, the Waynesboro boys team edged Trinity 86-76, while the Maidens won by a much more comfortable margin of 114-52. Earlier in the week, the Waynesboro boys topped Susquehanna Township 63-30 and St. Maria Goretti 67-27. The Maidens won their meet against Susquehanna Township 78-16 and nearly duplicated the score against Goretti, winning 78-13. The Waynesboro boys improved to 5-1,…
WAYNESBORO – In case you haven’t noticed yet, the Waynesboro Indians varsity basketball team is putting together yet another memorable season. As if last season’s 17-win campaign wasn’t enough – or a 17-win season in 2018-19 – the 2022-23 edition boasts an incredibly talented senior starting five featuring (not in any particular order) Jaylon Bean, Ryan Shaffer, Tanyon Shaull, Michael Young and Cooper Hough. And, on Friday night, the future leaders of head coach Tom Hoffman’s team got plenty of playing time during Waynesboro’s 54-20 Mid-Penn Colonial Division win against the West Perry Mustangs. Farin Parks, Kellan Smith, Will Campbell,…
MERCERSBURG – The Waynesboro Indians varsity wrestling team made the trip to James Buchanan on Thursday night and came away with a 60-6 victory in their Mid-Penn Colonial Division meet.
