I sometimes believe I was born out of time. I should have been born in the 1800s, when life, though not simpler, was not consumed with the trappings of the postmodern world. No thermonuclear weapons. No apocalyptic technology that threatens to subvert and enslave the minds, bodies, and souls of humanity. No cars, which means, no road rage, no car payments and no tragic accidents that maim, scar, or kill. No processed and packaged foods which can cause cancer. No digital platforms, powered by radiation-emitting energy. No Extinction Life Event on a global scale. But I wasn’t born in the…

WAYNESBORO – It’s been said that ‘Good things come to those who wait.’ That’s a dangerous words to live by for baseball. But they also say, ‘Baseball is a funny game.’ We can thank Joe Garagiola for the latter saying, and, on Monday evening at Robinson Field, Waynesboro American Legion Post 15 experienced the comeback of the ages against Chambersburg Post 46. Trailing 6-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Waynesboro’s offense came back from the dead. Post 15 batted around plus one and scored five runs to tie the game. Just when some might have been thinking of…

WAYNESBORO – What a difference a game makes. Two days after getting stonewalled by Greencastle, Wednesday, the Waynesboro American Legion Post 15 baseball team socked it to McConnellsburg in a four-inning 15-0 victory in a Franklin County American Legion League game at Robinson Field. As for old business, Post 15 lost 12-3 to Greencastle. Now on to new business. Waynesboro broke open the game against Post 561 with a nine-run first inning and never looked back. Starting (and finishing) pitcher Blake Daywalt looked like a high school ace pitcher. The lefthander befuddled McConnellsburg hitters the entire game, even though he…

Waynesboro Post 15 got the worst of it on Wednesday evening on the hottest day of summer against Greencastle Post 373 in a Franklin County American Legion League baseball game at Robinson Field. Greencastle, with a roster dotted with players who competed on the Greencastle-Antrim Blue Devils team that advanced to the PIAA Class 4A semifinals, made it look easy en route to a 12-3 victory. The loss put Post 15 a game under .500 at 7-8 with two more games left on the regular…

WAYNESBORO – Somehow, Waynesboro and St. Thomas played a game Monday evening. Mother Nature decided to pour down a bunch of rain in about 15 minutes, but the rain stopped as quickly as it started. That gave Waynesboro coaches enough time to drag the field and hope for a quick dry on the grass in the outfield. Check and check. Once the game started, Post 15 scored the first seven runs of the game and averted a late-game collapse to defeat Post 612 by the score of 8-3. “We left the bases loaded in the fifth. We had a chance…

WAYNESBORO – Wednesday evening, the Waynesboro American Legion baseball team jumped out to a 5-1 lead against fellow Franklin County American Legion League opponent Shippensburg, Wednesday. But it wasn’t enough. Shippensburg rallied to tie the game, and after Post 15 regained the lead 6-5, the visitors came back again to score twice in the top of the seventh. Fireball pitcher Tucker Chamberlin came on in relief in the bottom of the seventh inning and struck out the side to preserve the win. It was that blend of the good and the bad (not ugly though), as Waynesboro’s offense produced enough…
