HARRISBURG – Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Engineering District 8 region, which includes Franklin County, marked the completion of numerous projects this week. Projects include in Franklin County, the Route 997 resurfacing project, costing $2.1 million. Throughout the district, there were 27 bridge repair projects and the paving 171 roadway miles. The district covers, in addition to Franklin County, Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry and York counties. Statewide from January through October, 5,385 roadway miles were improved, including 1,941 miles of paving. In the same timeframe, work advanced on 401 state and locally owned bridges. CHAMBERSBURG — Habitat for Humanity, which so far has built 56 homes in Franklin County, will partner again with St. John’s United Church of Christ for a late October used book sale, according to Habitat Director Mark Story. The sale, which benefits Habitat projects, is sponsored by BCM Payroll Services. Donations of books and other items are sought from Sept. 3 to Oct. 12, with four ways to drop off items. At least five regional agencies had celebrating in mind Tuesday during National Night Out events, featuring area law enforcement units, K-9 officers, helicopter landings, public safety demonstrations and entertainment of all kinds. These events also all offered free refreshments, and some included games and raffle prizes as well.
