HAGERSTOWN – Washington County boasts 102,242 registered voters who have the opportunity to show their civic duty and participate in the 2024 election.  County officials report 16,096 mail-in ballots were sent out and as of October 31, 74.7 percent had been turned in to the local election board.  Voters will have many options for representation on the school board, heavily contested Hagerstown City Council seats and a mayoral race with one actively campaigning candidate and potential write-ins. BLUE RIDGE SUMMIT – Blue Ridge Fire & Rescue welcomes the public’s attendance at two upcoming events, a “Wing Night” on Oct. 26 and a Fall Faire Nov. 16. “Wing Night” will begin at 4:30 on Saturday, Oct. 26, with the option of several types of wing sauce, family-friendly festivities and games of chance. WAYNESBORO – A public hearing to gather input on the possible rezoning of open Waynesboro Country Club land for housing development is set for 1:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, at the Washington Township Building, 11798 Buchanan Trail E. A vote on the rezoning by Washington Township Supervisors will immediately follow the hearing. Township Supervisors said the public hearing is to gather comments from the public regarding amendments to the Code of Washington Township and the Joint Comprehensive Plan of the Borough of Waynesboro and Washington Township. WAYNESBORO – The Blue Ridge Fire and Rescue Carnival is in full swing this week. The free, family-friendly event is the third for the department in recent years. Fire Chief Chris Corle explained the carnival will run each evening from 6-10 p.m. and will include rides, games, concessions, 50/50 and other small games of chance. WAYNESBORO – Beneath a picturesque blue sky, residents from Washington Township and the surrounding area congregated at the 9/11 Tribute in Red Run Park to observe Patriot Day on Wednesday, Sept. 11. The event, organized by Officer Terry Dewitt of the Washington Township Police Department, honored the lives lost in the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
