You don’t have to celebrate Christmas to appreciate the holiday’s sense of warmth and togetherness, you just have to take a jog through town. Of the four seasons, winter is the one that sees the most runners mail it in. It’s a shame, but I get it. It is miserably cold with biting winds, and you can never tell for sure when you’re about to step on an icy patch. But one thing that keeps me going outside (in layers) is the Christmas spirit. Particularly with the lights and decorations. I love the effort, creativity, passion, and unity shown by…

I don’t know how the seasonal depression hit me so hard and suddenly, but I can pinpoint when. I was driving the back roads of Perry County from one of my last landscaping jobs of the season and could just feel a chill run through my body. The cold seems to sting more with each passing year, and this time, not even the last sip of my lukewarm coffee could thwart the shiver running up my spine. The deadness of the outside, the dimming of the sunlight, the uncertain driving surface: All of it just made me feel sick to…

It feels weird when I say it out loud, but I’m feeling more pressure than ever to put on my best video game tournament yet. What started out many years ago as an XBOX party with a couple of friends and a case of beer has somehow evolved into this multi-game marathon, complete with a garage full of TVs and gaming consoles manned by 32 players. Our most recent tournament raised $2,300 for Extra Life Hershey, which benefits PSU Children’s Hospital. This is a great thing, obviously, but I think it was Notorious B.I.G. who wrote the song, “Mo Money,…

I’m two years into this whole run-streaking thing and I’m still not sure if I’m an “elite” runner or one who is just too stubborn to quit. In mid-October of 2020, I laced ‘em up and went for a run. And in the 729 days that have followed, I’ve repeated the process. Never in my wildest running dreams did I think I could make it this far on a run streak. Why? Because it can be a risky proposition. There are plenty of doctors that will tell you that running a mile or more every single day can cause breakdown…
