The Keystone Youth Football and Cheerleading League is set to hold its championship games on Saturday, and if you ask the parents of Hagerstown’s Mid Varsity team, the Hubs should be there. Hagerstown rolled into last weekend’s semifinal round with an 8-0 record, having outscored opponents 246-6 in the process. What happened next was predictable: The No. 1-seeded Hubs defeated No. 4 Hamilton by a 33-13 score. Hagerstown’s Mid Varsity, composed of 10- and 11-year-olds, was headed to the finals. Or so they thought. The KYFCL voted to disqualify the Hubs after their victory. The reason hasn’t been made clear…

It was only supposed to be a normal fall party with cornhole on the grass, chili on the stove and friends around the fire.  But after two drinks, I made about the sixth-worst choice one can make under such circumstances: I committed to running a trail half marathon with my wife this winter. At the time, it seemed like a great idea. I’ve been running consistently for almost 10 years now and have raced every distance from one mile to 50K. A 13.1-mile stroll in the woods should be a piece of cake, right? That’s how I overconfidently framed it…

Following back-to-back seasons that saw North Hagerstown’s girls volleyball squad win an MPSSAA 3A state title, it’s only natural to wonder if the Hubs can pull off the three-peat this fall. We’ll find out soon enough as four wins are all that separate North Hagerstown from a third state title. The postseason journey resumes for the Hubs on Wednesday when they take on Linganore in the 3A West Region I Final, a match that will send the winner to the state quarterfinals. We’ve selected this high-powered matchup as our Match of the Week. In the weeks and months to come…

North Hagerstown’s football team knew that winning the 68th Gridiron Classic — and snapping a three-season losing streak against rival South Hagerstown — would take a big effort. James Jackson Jr. was happy to provide that spark. Jackson exploded for four TDs to give the Hubs a 27-0 lead at halftime, and North Hagerstown never looked back in a 41-14 victory over the Rebels on Saturday afternoon. Jackson got the party started with a pair of TD runs, from 36 and seven yards, to give his team a 13-0 lead after the first quarter. He stretched his legs out even…

Two girls volleyball teams from the Local.News coverage area — North Hagerstown and Greencastle-Antrim — are both in the midst of deep postseason runs. The Hubs had a big week, which began with taking out Frederick 3-0 to win the CMC large-school championship. Seeded No. 1 for the MPSSAA 3A West Region I Tournament, North Hagerstown punched its ticket to the final with a 3-0 win over No. 4 Tuscarora. The Hubs will face No. 2 Linganore on Wednesday in the title game. As for Greencastle, the Blue Devils found themselves with their backs against the wall in the District…

It’s not uncommon to see siblings playing together at the youth level. If the talent level continues to grow, you might just see those siblings competing on a high school field together. Beyond that point, however, is a college playing field that can only be reached by the cream of the crop. It’s difficult for just one player, let alone siblings, to earn the opportunity. But brothers Logan and Austin Stapleton, both senior midfield players for the Penn College soccer squad, have not only found their way, they’ve flourished. The Chambersburg graduates have combined for eight goals and four assists…

For the past three seasons, the football rivalry between North and South Hagerstown has been a one-sided affair. The Rebels have won three consecutive blowouts over the Hubs, outscoring them 84-14 in the process. North Hagerstown hasn’t snagged a win over South since 2020, when the Hubs recorded a 21-20 triumph. North Hagerstown has good reason to believe it can snap the streak, though, when it travels to School Stadium on Saturday to take on the Rebels in the 68th Gridiron Classic. We’ve selected this contest as our Game of the Week. South Hagerstown would like nothing more than to…

If the Central Pennsylvania Youth Soccer League serves as any indication, the future for soccer in Chambersburg is bright. The Union Soccer Club, based in Chambersburg, crowned at least four CPYSL champions last weekend: The U10 boys Tornadoes, U12 boys United, U10 girls Wildfire and U13 girls Eclipse. The Tornadoes breezed through CPYSL Division 4-White with a 6-1-1 record, while United was unbeaten in Division 1 at 6-0-2. On the girls side, the Wildfire dominated Division 3 with an 8-0 record, while the Eclipse posted a 6-0-2 mark to secure first place in Division 3-Red. Another USC team, the U11…
