The picks are in for the Washington County Athletic Association and Central Maryland Conference All-Star baseball teams, and there are no shortage of players from the Local.News1.org coverage area on these lists.
North Hagerstown racked up 30 selections, including five from just one player: Ian Kelley. A left-handed pitcher for the Hubs, Kelly struck out 50 batters and held opponents to a .110 batting average. He was named First Team on both the CMC and WCAA squads, while the WCAA also selected Kelley as the Senior of the Year and Co-Pitcher of the Year, and awarded him with a Silver Slugger Award.
Kelley was joined on the WCAA First Team by teammates Logan Atkinson, Joey Dorsey, and Matt Mallardi.
North Hagerstown shared the Game of the Year award with Smithsburg following a contest on April 19 that saw the Hubs beat the Leopards by a 10-9 score.
Speaking of Smithsburg, the Leopards earned 25 other selections of their own, including WCAA honors for Team of the Year and Coach of the Year for Patrick Moore. George Mantz was picked as the Sophomore of the Year. Gavin Ramarge was selected as a First Teamer on both the CMC and WCAA teams, while teammate Mason Oates made the First Team for the WCAA squad.
South Hagerstown garnered 16 selections, most notably Derek Kline, the only Rebel named to the First Team in both the CMC and WCAA. Kline had a monster season for South Hagerstown, and that was certainly represented in the all-star selections, which saw Kline get picked as the Most Improved Player and Hitter of the Year, while also nailing down Gold Glove and Silver Slugger awards. The Rebels’ Tyson Mangold was also picked as the WCAA’s Freshman of the Year.
