WAYNESBORO – Despite the cold temperatures, the community gathered together Dec. 6 to join the Washington Township’s first responders as they celebrated the holiday season with the Red Run Santa Express!
The event ran from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Red Run Park at 12143 Buchanan Trail E. The family event featured several rides; one was on a police train with lights and siren and the Santa Express itself. The train ride included a small, covered bridge. There was also an opportunity for visitors to ride in a real fire engine.
The Washington Township Police Department sponsored the event and announced that over 400 riders had the opportunity to ride the Red Run Santa Express and there were even more in attendance for the event itself.
Santa Claus was in attendance to listen to the requests of the kids and provide holiday photo memories from Pictures Plus in his small workshop at the train station. Also in attendance was the Grinch who snuck aboard the express to take a ride with some lucky visitors. He also made his way around the event offering up some unique photo ops and bringing smiles to all the young visitors.
There was plenty to eat and drink at the park on that chilly winter afternoon. There were several food trucks in attendance including Hercules Kitchen, Fireside Pizza, J&M BBQ and DRTy Sodas. For those who needed a little warming comfort, the Davis Family was there providing hot chocolate to visitors. There were also cookies donated by The Wicked Hen and Her Deviled Egg.
The event was a great success as it brought many in the Waynesboro community out to not only show their holiday spirit, but also to show support to our local first responders and their families.
