5 things to do this weekend

The Maryland International Film Festival-Hagerstown returns this weekend, showcasing over 100 films from around the globe. The event, now in its 13th year, will take place at five venues in downtown Hagerstown, with opening night hosted at the historic Maryland Theatre. Recognized by Movie Magazine as one of the “Top 50 film festivals worth the entry fee,” the festival offers filmmakers a chance to connect with investors and production companies while enjoying after-parties featuring food and drinks. Tickets are $20, and the festival runs Friday through Sunday in the heart of Hagerstown’s Arts and Entertainment District.

The Grove Family Library in Chambersburg will host a Craft Supplies Swap & Sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 22. This event offers a unique opportunity for craft enthusiasts to declutter their unused supplies and find new materials on a budget. Participants can rent a table for a $10 donation to sell their supplies or swap items from the free table. All table donations will benefit the library. Interested individuals should sign up promptly by contacting the library at 717-264-9663 or emailing [email protected], as table availability is limited. The event is strictly for swapping and selling craft supplies, not finished craft items.

The Tuscarora Wildlife Education Project will hold its 30th annual fundraiser at Corland Mansion in Hagerstown. The event, scheduled for March 22, will feature dinner and an auction. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., with dinner served at 6 p.m. Auction items include handcrafted turkey calls, unique jewelry, guided fly fishing trips, a Lake Erie fishing excursion, hand-crafted wine racks and original artwork. A youth turkey hunt with a state and national turkey caller will also be up for bid. The mansion is located at 19411 Cortland Dr. More information is available on the organization’s Facebook page.

Kip Calahan Young of Forever Young Music Ministry will return to the Capitol Theatre main stage in Chambersburg on Saturday, March 22, at 7 p.m. for “Ladies of the 80’s: A Tribute To Female Country Music Legends.” The show will celebrate iconic female country music performers of the 1980s, including Reba McEntire, Dolly Parton, The Judds and Tanya Tucker. Young will perform live with multimedia storytelling. Prices range from $24 to $34, with discounts for seniors, military and frontline workers.

The Valley Art Association presents “Art In The Wild” at the Mansion House Art Gallery in Hagerstown’s City Park. The exhibition, featuring members’ paintings of favorite wild animals in various mediums, runs through March 23. Visitors can view the artwork in the North Gallery on Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The show is free and open to the public. The Mansion House, a Georgian-style building constructed in 1846, serves as the headquarters for the Valley Art Association and provides a picturesque setting for the displayed art.
