With just two weeks remaining in the Capital Football Association (CFA) Youth Football League regular season, area squads are doing all they can to extend their gridiron campaigns into the playoffs.
Put Waynesboro and Chambersburg at the front of the line.
The Stallions feature the area’s top Midget team, a group that owns a 6-1 record and has outscored opponents 144-52 in the process. Waynesboro’s Peewee (3-4) and Pony (4-3) teams are in position to earn Federal Conference postseason spots, but can’t afford to falter down the stretch.
Chambersburg’s Midgets scored a big win last weekend over National Conference Division 2 leader Central Penn, and as a result, the 4-3 Trojans are in a three-way tie for first place and very much in contention for a playoff berth. Gunning for a high seed will be Chambersburg’s Pony squad, which is 5-2 and has pasted its opponents by a combined 145-62 score.
In the Liberty Conference, Chambersburg Blue is hoping that its Midget (4-3) and Pony (3-4) teams can make a late push for the postseason. The same can be said for the long-shot Greencastle Midgets (2-4).
Another playoff hopeful can be found in Adams County. The Fairfield Midgets are 3-4 and on the bubble for the Federal Conference postseason.
The Washington County Junior Football League recently posted a standings update. The Peewee division is led by the Saints (3-2) and Ravens (3-2) over the Titans (1-4) and Eagles (1-4), while the Girls Flag division is ruled by Pink (4-0) over Blue (1-2) and Purple (0-3). The Giants (5-0) are in full control of the division at Junior JV, followed by the Packers (2-3), Bears (2-3), and Vikings (1-4). The Varsity division is up for grabs between the Giants (3-2) and Vikings (3-2), with the Packers (1-4) and Bears (1-4) giving chase.
