Fresh cider, homemade pies and pumpkin-patch adventures will mark a golden anniversary as Ivy Hill Farm celebrates its 50th Fall Festival from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at 13840 Smithsburg Pike in Smithsburg. The festival will bring families together to celebrate the fall season with apple butter demonstrations, whole and sliced homemade pies served with ice cream, pick-your-own pumpkins, hayrides and farm animal encounters. Food trucks, local artisan vendors, live music and a kids zone will round out the festivities, with seasonal mums, gourds, jellies, jams and fall decorations also available.
Fire trucks and family fun will take center stage when the Chambersburg Volunteer Fireman’s Museum hosts its third annual Truck & Engine Show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, in the Grant Street Loft parking lot in Chambersburg. The free community event will bring families together for touch-a-truck activities, free museum tours, face painting, children’s games and giveaways, music and karaoke by Whit’s Mix, and photos with Smokey Bear. A special presentation on the 1864 burning of Chambersburg is scheduled for noon, followed by free music bingo at 2 p.m. Food vendors, Antietam Dairy ice cream, a free basket raffle and a handmade quilt silent auction also will be featured. Visitors can purchase event T-shirts, souvenirs and tickets to vote for their favorite fire apparatus. Parking will be available at Jim’s Farmers Market, Omega Coffee Collective, the county administration building and Jennings Chevrolet along Grant Street.
Pumpkins, ponies and a little scarecrow creativity will bring fall fun to Fairgrounds Park during the Harvest Hoedown, a family-friendly celebration from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, near the North Pavilion at 351 N. Cleveland Ave. in Hagerstown, Md. Children and families can celebrate the season with scarecrow making, pumpkin and hand painting, balloon giveaways, a petting zoo, pony rides, and food and craft vendors. The first 1,000 children ages 12 and younger will receive a free pumpkin.
Local dog lovers and their four-legged companions can unleash some autumn fun as Dogtoberfest returns to 25 E. Main St. in Waynesboro on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Presented in part by Rough Edges Brewing and Mainstreet Waynesboro to benefit the Antietam Humane Society and feature adoptable dogs seeking forever homes, the event includes the Paws 5K race at 10 a.m., beer sales and tastings, local vendors, music and the announcement of the Ales for Tails winner. Attendees can also enter their pets in a 12:30 p.m. doggie costume contest by donating pet supplies or making a monetary contribution to support the local shelter
Families can take a hands-on approach to safety at the free Emergency Preparedness Expo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Washington County Training Center, 18350 Public Safety Place, Hagerstown. The family-friendly event will bring together local first responders, public safety agencies and community organizations to help residents prepare for unexpected situations. Activities will include live demonstrations, interactive exhibits, emergency preparedness tips and resources, and a meet-and-greet with Chase and Marshall from “PAW Patrol.” Attendees can explore equipment, ask questions and learn practical ways to keep their households prepared.
