The Chambersburg girls tennis team has come out swinging.
Coach Niko Mucci’s squad is off to a 3-0 start after posting shutout victories over Red Land, Carlisle and CD East. The Trojans have been fueled by a group of girls who have yet to lose a match this season.
Singles players Leah Wadel (No. 1), Olivia Keller (No. 2) and Nina Kuchar (No. 3) are all unbeaten, as are the doubles teams of Gretta Hill/Aria Barberio (No. 1) and Kendall Temcheck/Sophie Keller (No. 2).
Fairfield’s golf team is not unbeaten, but the Knights are pretty darn close. Led by a runner-up finish from Aden Frank and a third-place showing from Isabelle Studli, Fairfield won its South Central Athletic Conference Division III meet last week. The Knights now lead their division with a 13-1 record.
Speaking of Fairfield, the girls soccer team picked up a valuable 8-0 win over Lebanon, a Class 4A team.
The cross country season kicked off in Chambersburg with the Enos Yeager Invitational. The 2.33-mile race saw the Trojans’ Natalie Quinn conquer the field in 14:49 and teammate Bella Rife take fifth in 16:54. Waynesboro’s Morgan Jones took third in 15:55.
The boys race included Top 10 finishes from Chambersburg’s Cole Lehman (6th, 13:15) and Boston Vincenti (9th, 13:27).
Finally, football season kicked off in Pennsylvania last weekend, and Greencastle-Antrim got off to a fast start with a 35-13 win over backyard rival Waynesboro.
