Fire crews quickly extinguish attic blaze in Waynesboro

WAYNESBORO, Pa. — Crews from several fire companies responded early Sunday to an attic fire on East Fourth Street that officials said may have been caused by storm damage to the home’s electrical service.

The fire was reported around 6:10 a.m. Sunday in the Borough of Waynesboro. According to information shared by Longmeadow Volunteer Fire Co. and other responding companies, the blaze involved the attic of a home and was brought under control quickly.

A fallen tree limb brought overnight storm damage to the home’s main electrical service line, and a lineman was on the scene disconnecting the power, according to the information provided. Smoke was visible from the structure, but the fire was extinguished quickly.

The person living in the home got out safely, and no injuries were reported.

The response included the Borough of Waynesboro Fire Department, Waynesboro Volunteer Fire Department, Washington Co. Fire Company, New Franklin Fire Department, Williamsport Volunteer Fire Co. and other mutual aid companies, according to the information provided. Longmeadow Volunteer Fire Co. said its Qnt. 27 crew responded as a running reserve ladder truck, ventilated the structure and assisted with opening up and overhaul before being released.
