Fayetteville man killed after Mustang crosses center line

A 61-year-old Fayetteville man died Saturday after being struck by a Ford Mustang that crossed the center line and hit him while he was traveling on the shoulder of a road in Greene Township, state police said.

Karl Hafner Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to Pennsylvania State Police. Hafner was riding a non-motorized vehicle, such as a bicycle, scooter or skateboard, and was wearing a helmet, police said.

The crash happened around 12:12 p.m. Saturday on Mount Pleasant Road, where Hafner was traveling north on the shoulder. Police said a southbound Ford Mustang crossed over the double yellow line and struck Hafner before returning to the southbound lane and hitting a utility pole.

Mount Pleasant Road is a two-lane road with a 45 mph speed limit and no bike lanes or sidewalks along its length, according to the report.

The driver of the Mustang was flown to York Hospital with injuries. No charges had been filed as of Sunday morning, police said.
