The opening week of high school soccer playoffs began last week, and only one squad from the Local.News1 coverage area remains in contention: Coach Corey Grove’s boys from Chambersburg.
The Trojans, seeded 10th in the District 3-4A championship bracket, secured a 3-2 (OT) win over No. 7 Dallastown on Tuesday before punching their ticket to the semifinal round with a 1-0 upset over No. 2 Conestoga Valley on Saturday. With that win over the Buckskins, Chambersburg has secured a spot in the PIAA Tournament, and will play No. 3 Central York on Tuesday for a chance to advance to advance to the district title game.
The Pennsylvania golf season came to an end last week with the PIAA Championships. Our area’s lone participant — Isabelle Studli of Fairfield — placed 18th at the 2A Championships.
The cross country postseason roared forward in both Maryland and Pennslyvania last week. Chambersburg’s boys qualified for the PIAA meet as a team with a fifth-place finish at the District 3-3A Championships. The Trojans were highlighted by the efforts of medalists Julian Clark (3rd in 15:44) and Aiden Alleman (16th in 16:07). The Trojan girls got solid finishes from Natalie Quinn (16th in 18:57) and Brook Boone (30th in 19:33), but finished sixth to miss the state meet by one place.
The Washington County Public Schools Championship saw Smithsburg claim the boys title, led by runner-up Michael Wynkoop, who finished in 16:17. The race was won by North Hagerstown’s Landon Call in 16:12. The Hubs claimed the girls team title over Smithsburg, thanks to a 1-2-3 finish from Kenzie Philp (19:37), Caroline Philp (19:46), and Anna Ramanan (20:15).
Finally, Greencastle-Antrim’s girls volleyball squad is alive and well in its quest to defend its District 3-3A championship. The No. 1-seeded Blue Devils face No. 4 Garden Spot in the semifinals on Tuesday.
Below is a sport-by-sport look at how teams in the Local.News1 coverage area performed last week:
