High school scores and standings from Oct. 6-11

As the regular season winds down in high school sports, there are a number of area teams who are fighting for playoff spots.

Count the Chambersburg and Greencastle-Antrim girls soccer teams among those squads. The Trojans extended their winning streak to three games last week and currently rank No. 14 in the District 3-4A power rankings. Only 16 teams will qualify for the 4A postseason, and the same can be said for the 3A tourney, which the Blue Devils are trying to squeeze into. Greencastle, ranked 17th, has won four of its last five games.

Making it into the postseason won’t be a problem for Greencastle-Antrim and Waynesboro’s girls volleyball teams, which finished 1-2 in the Mid-Penn Colonial Division this fall. North Hagerstown (10-0) and Smithsburg (7-3) are also in the midst of big seasons.

Pennsylvania’s cross country postseason kicked off last weekend with the Mid-Penn Championships, hosted by Big Spring. Chambersburg’s girls placed third as a team and were highlighted by medalist finishes from Natalie Quinn (4th in 19:02), Brook Boone (11th in 19:39), and Lillian Spohn (18th in 19:58).

In other cross country news, Smithsburg’s boys conquered the Dan Stoner Invitational and got Top 10 finishes from Michael Wynkoop (2nd in 16:08) and Dylan Herbst (7th in 16:43). North Hagerstown’s Kenzie Philp won the girls race in 19:30, while Anna Ranaman finished fourth in 20:11.

Speaking of the Hubs, North Hagerstown’s golf squad qualified for the MPSSAA Championships as a team, while South Hagerstown’s Luke Leisinger qualified as an individual.

Finally, Smithsburg improved to 4-2 in girls flag football with a 13-6 win over Clear Spring.

Below is a sport-by-sport look at how teams in the Local.News1 coverage area performed last week:
