5 things to do this weekend

Fall fun will light up Fayetteville as the Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department hosts its annual Fall Festival this weekend, Oct. 2-4 at the department’s carnival grounds behind the firehouse, 101 W. Main St. The family-friendly event will feature rides, games, food, homemade apple butter for $8 a pint and live bands, with music beginning at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Food, rides and games open nightly at 5 p.m., and fireworks will cap the festival Sunday night. Proceeds will support the Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department and its volunteer services to the community.

As autumn colors begin to take hold across Washington County, local bargain hunters and food lovers will have a reason to gather this weekend for a day of shopping and community fun. Antique Crossroads will host its annual Fall Fling from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at 20150 National Pike in Hagerstown. The rain-or-shine event brings together indoor and outdoor vendors offering a wide variety of merchandise, alongside light refreshments and gift card raffles. Attendees can also grab lunch from the Bentwood Smokers Old Fashioned BBQ food truck, which will be serving on site from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call 301-739-0858.

Four-legged fun will take center stage when the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter hosts its 26th annual Dog Walk and Contests on Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Shippensburg Fairgrounds. The rain-or-shine fundraiser, set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., will feature registration beginning at 10 a.m., a dog walk at 11 a.m., canine contests, vendors and food trucks, with proceeds supporting the Chambersburg-based shelter. Following the walk, shelter judges will award prizes for best trick, best costume, best kisser, best tail-wagger and most obedient.

Downtown Waynesboro is trading its quiet sidewalks for a bustling street festival as Mainstreet Waynesboro hosts its free Fall Market Day 2026 along Main Street from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3. Designed to bring the community together and celebrate local commerce, the event features more than 150 local vendors, children’s activities, food and beverage options, and live music performances from Mack Berry at 9:30 a.m. and Drew Adams at noon.

Dust off your flannels and sharpen your taste buds: the Quad State Beer Fest: Clad In Plaid is bringing a retro bash and craft beverages to Boonsboro. The festival takes place from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Washington County Agricultural Education Center, 7313 Sharpsburg Pike. Designed to celebrate the pre-digital era while bringing together craft drink enthusiasts, the event features offerings from over 30 breweries along with various wineries, cideries, and distilleries, adult games and contests, and live ’90s-era music from tribute bands Super Spreader and Doc Marten and the Flannels. Tickets range from $19 to $57 and can be purchased online at ifg-events.com/quadstatebeerfest.
