MERCERSBURG, Pa. — A Mercersburg man faces multiple felony charges after Pennsylvania State Police said he sexually assaulted a woman he drove home from a bar in July.
Michael Mellott, 46, is charged with rape by forcible compulsion, rape of an unconscious person, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse by forcible compulsion, sexual assault and aggravated indecent assault without consent, according to court records. He also is charged with misdemeanor indecent assault without consent.
The woman reported the alleged assault Sunday at the Pennsylvania State Police barracks in Chambersburg, troopers wrote in an affidavit of probable cause.
According to the affidavit, the woman and Mellott had been at a bar July 4. Mellott drove her to his home in Peters Township because she was intoxicated, police said.
The woman told investigators Mellott carried her inside the residence and placed her on a bed, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her. She told troopers that Mellott also assaulted her after she went to the bathroom and then pulled her back onto the bed, the affidavit said.
Police said the woman reported that Mellott allowed her to leave after she pleaded with him. Investigators also cited text messages that they said Mellott sent following the alleged assault.
“I said that I was sorry but that’s not going to fix anything,” Mellott wrote in one message, according to the affidavit. Police said he also wrote that he had “failed her.”
Mellott was being held Wednesday in Franklin County Prison in lieu of $300,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 6.
