MAUGANSVILLE — Food, music, craft vendors and games for the kids await those attending the Maugansville Ruritan Club’s 44th Annual Community Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31. This event will take place at the club’s location at 18007 Maugans Ave., promising a day filled with entertainment, food and community spirit.

The day will kick off with an opening ceremony led by Heavenly Harmony, featuring a flag presentation and 45 minutes of gospel music from 9 to 10 a.m. Following this, attendees can view performances by two of the region’s most sought-after musical talents. Elly Cooke, a rising star from Gettysburg, will perform from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Recently named Central Pennsylvania’s Female Country Artist of the Year in March 2024, Cooke has made waves on local morning television and recently opened for Anne Wilson at the York Fair. She has been a beloved performer at the Maugansville Ruritan Club since she was just 16 years old.

Later in the day, from 1 to 3 p.m., Mack Berry from Smithsburg, Md., will take the stage. Berry and his band have been recognized at the Pennsylvania Fair and Showmen’s Convention, where they were selected to perform at eight county fairs this summer. Known for their energetic performances, they frequently play at local venues and are regulars on the IWI Mobile stage.

In addition to the musical performances, Community Day will feature a variety of craft vendors and displays, free entertainment and games for children. Food options will be plentiful, including hot and cold sandwiches, homemade soups, pies, cakes, funnel cakes and the famous Maugansville Fire Company French fries, along with ice cream from Maugansville Creamery.

The Maugansville Ruritan Club has long been a cornerstone of the local community, providing support through various initiatives such as scholarships, blood drives and assistance for those in need. With ample free parking available, the club encourages everyone to attend and support their efforts in giving back to the community.
