SMITHSBURG. Md. — The town of Smithsburg has been allocated $137,000 from the American Rescue Plan Act, an allocation approved by the Washington County Board of Commissioners. These funds will be used to upgrade the town’s outdated wastewater pumping stations.
These improvements are crucial for ensuring the reliability and efficiency of Smithsburg’s sewer system, which has faced challenges due to its aging facilities. The improvements are expected to enhance the overall functionality and sustainability of the town’s wastewater management.
Local officials expressed gratitude to the Washington County Commissioners for their commitment to improving the community’s infrastructure. The allocation is part of a broader initiative by the county to distribute a total of $648,592 in ARPA funds to various municipalities, including Boonsboro and Funkstown, to address similar infrastructure needs.
As Smithsburg moves forward with these improvements, the community can anticipate a more robust and efficient wastewater system, which should help with the town’s continued development, officials noted.
