GREENCASTLE — Three educators and one student from the Greencastle-Antim School District were honored recently by the Franklin County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees. This event rotates among the five school districts in Franklin County. This year, those honored were from the Greencastle-Antrim School District.

Among the honorees was Mary Stander, who received the 2024 Lauretta Woodson Support Professional Award. As a paraprofessional at Greencastle-Antrim High School, Stander has been pivotal in motivating students to surpass their own expectations, especially those facing academic and social challenges, association officials said.

Amy Wilson was awarded the 2024 Lauretta Woodson Educator Award. Known for her creativity and energy, Wilson is dedicated to fostering a strong foundation for independent reading and a love of literature among her students. Her dynamic presence in the classroom is highly regarded, association officials noted.

Meghan Coker was the recipient of a $200 Educational Support Grant, which she utilized for a Rubber Band Car Challenge at the annual STEM event. The challenge involved third, fourth and fifth graders designing rubber band-powered cars, with a competition to see which car could travel the farthest. Coker documented the event with a video shared with attendees.

Additionally, a $1000 scholarship was awarded to Brianna Minnick, a 2024 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School. Minnick, who completed an internship at the Primary School during her senior year, is now enrolled in early childhood education at Shippensburg University. Her scholarship highlights the importance of supporting future educators, a mission strongly supported by the members of the organization who contribute to the Scholarship Fund.

Representing the district administration at the event was Ashley Martin, the K-5 Principal.
