CHAMBERSBURG- Just in time for the holidays, a beloved local icon has returned to her rightful place. The “Roadside Giant” at Shatzer Fruit Market in Franklin County is back, sporting a fresh new look thanks to the talented students and staff at Franklin County Career and Technology Center (CareerTech).

Before closing for the holiday break, CareerTech students from numerous programs took on the task of restoring the “Giant” to her former glory. From welding and bodywork to painting and graphic design, each program contributed their unique skills to give the landmark a much-needed makeover.

A key part of the restoration involved careful transport and heavy lifting, handled by Dave’s Truck Repair and Ag Mechanics/Cooperative Education student Kaleb Keefer (GASD). Their expertise ensured the smooth delivery of the “Giant” back to her home at Shatzer Fruit Market.

The return of the “Roadside Giant” is a festive gift to the Franklin County community, a reminder of the spirit of collaboration and dedication embodied by CareerTech. This project stands as a testament to the valuable skills students acquire at the center, skills that not only benefit them in their future careers but also contribute to the vibrancy and history of their community.
