YORK – WellSpan Health is pleased to announce that Faraaz Yousuf will join the health system as executive vice president and chief operating officer effective June 6.

Yousuf comes to WellSpan from Bon Secours Mercy Health in Richmond, Virginia, where he served as Market President for the non-profit Catholic health system, based in Cincinnati, Ohio. There, he led seven hospitals, 139 physician offices, an accountable care organization and a broad network of physicians.

“I know Faraaz is inspired by WellSpan’s vision to reimagine healthcare for our patients and consumers,” said Roxanna Gapstur, president and CEO of WellSpan Health. “I’m eager to see how he builds on a strong healthcare strategy background with a focus on operational excellence. Faraaz has exceptional leadership skills which will drive performance as a leader in value-based care.”

In his new role, Yousuf will focus on continued growth and integration of priorities across the health system’s footprint in South Central Pennsylvania and northern Maryland. He will operate in a dyad partnership with Dr. Anthony Aquilina, executive vice president and chief physician executive, who joined the health system in May of 2020.

“I am eager to learn from the talented leaders and other members of the team who are delivering on WellSpan’s vision of being a trusted partner to our communities,” said Yousuf. “I am confident my experience will strengthen the performance of the WellSpan system as we lead the region in high-value care.”

Prior to Bon Secours, Yousuf held roles of increasing responsibility in large health systems across the nation, including Hospital Corporation of America, Sutter Health and LifeBridge Health. Yousuf’s deep experience in health care operations, strategy, mergers and acquisitions and population health makes him well positioned to support WellSpan’s transforming health system.

Yousuf earned his bachelor’s degree and a Master of Healthcare Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Yousuf will succeed current executive vice president and chief operating officer John Porter, who will retire on June 30, 2022.
