CHAMBERSBURG – The Franklin County Career and Technology Center recently hosted its annual welding competition, facilitated by industry experts from The Manitowoc Company. Each semester, welding students under the instruction of Mrs. O’Donnell are challenged to complete a design project within a set timeframe.
Workforce partners from Manitowoc anonymously judged the finished welds, selecting first, second and third place winners. This year’s top honors went to three students from the Waynesboro Area School District. Miley Smeltzer, an 11th grader, took first place, marking the first time a female student has won the competition. Tyler Rooney, a 10th grader, earned second place, while 12th grader Brady Bryan placed third.
Winners were presented with welding equipment and company swag. The event continues to celebrate student achievement and foster connections between local schools and industry leaders.
