WAYNESBORO – After two weather-related cancellations, the Waynesboro Youth Baseball League finally celebrated its Opening Day on Monday, May 26, with a parade and a full slate of games.
League officials and families gathered early on Memorial Day, participating in the community parade before heading to the fields. The ceremonial portion of Opening Day took place just before the first pitch at 11 a.m., marking the league’s third attempt to officially kick off the season.
Teams lined up along both the first and third baselines for the ceremony. On the first baseline, the lineup included American Legion, Eagles, VFW, Braves, Mets, Royals, Athletics, Nationals, Pirates, Astros, and Orioles. The third baseline featured Moose, Owls, Wacco, Marlins, Red Sox, White Sox, Cardinals, Phillies, Rockies, Dodgers, and Tigers.
Despite the previous setbacks, the league’s players, coaches, and supporters embraced the day’s festivities, setting the tone for a promising season ahead.
