WAYNESBORO – A towering Christmas tree donated by local residents arrived in Waynesboro’s town square Sunday, marking the kickoff to the holiday season.
The 40-foot Norway spruce, gifted by Steve and Diane Rock of Washington Township, was felled by Cumberland Valley Tree Service and loaded onto a flatbed truck. Washington Township police escorted the tree from Stottlemyer Road into the borough along Pennsylvania Route 997. Waynesboro police then guided it to the square at Main and Broad streets.
D.L. George used a crane to hoist the tree into a prepared hole in the southwest corner of the square, directly in front of Frank’s Pizza. Borough of Waynesboro workers assisted with the installation and hung wreaths and lights on nearby street lamps.
Tree decorator Jake Myers began festooning the spruce with ornaments and garlands immediately after setup, aiming for a full display by week’s end.
