A strong second quarter proved decisive as Waynesboro’s girls basketball team topped Chambersburg, 45–35, in a non-league game on Senior Night Tuesday.
Chambersburg (2–20) jumped out to a 9–5 advantage after the first quarter, but the Maidens (9–13) flipped the momentum in the second, outscoring the Trojans 13–4 to take control. Waynesboro maintained that lead the rest of the way, sealing the win by converting six of eight free throws in the fourth period.
Chambersburg struggled at the line, hitting just 5 of 13 attempts for the game.
Ayla Whiteley sparked the Trojans with a career-best 15 points — all coming in the second half. Maddie Mills added nine points, finishing the season averaging 12.3 per game.
Waynesboro was paced by Bre McIlquham’s 19 points, while Aly Shockey contributed 11.
