Waynesboro Stallions Pony Division team advances in CFA playoffs

LEWISBERRY — The Waynesboro Stallions Pony football team stamped its ticket to the next round of Capital Football Association playoffs with a hard-fought 34-24 victory over the Central Dauphin Rams on Saturday in Red Land.

The fifth and sixth graders, under the lights for a 6 p.m. kickoff, leaned on a dominant offensive line that overpowered the Rams’ defense and a gritty unit that delivered key stops when it mattered most.

Standout performances fueled the win. Sincere Mitchell returned a punt for a touchdown, while Brycen Benedict rushed for more than 200 yards and three scores. Brian Mills added a rushing touchdown, and Brixton Hollimon converted an extra point.

The 36-player roster is guided by head coach Bradley Belford and assistants Steven Shifflett, Thomas Hollimon, Bryan Benedict, and Bryan Young. Captains for the opener were Hollimon, Freedom Young, Benedict, and Collin Albright.

The Stallions next face the Northern York Polar Bears at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday in Red Land.

Elsewhere in the weekend’s action, the Stallions Peewee team fell 26-6 to New Cumberland in its playoff opener, and the Midget squad lost 35-8 to Red Land.

The Waynesboro Stallions Pony football team consists of 36 players in both 5th and 6th grades. They are led by Head Coach Bradley Belford and Assistant Coaches Steven Shifflett, Thomas Hollimon, Bryan Benedict, and Bryan Young.

On a brighter note, the Stallions cheer squads competed at the Colonial Classic in New Oxford, Pennsylvania. The Midget level earned second place, and the Pony squad took third. All four levels head to Central Dauphin on Saturday for their second competition.
