WAYNESBORO, Pa. — Last week Waynesboro Rotarians heard from Tanyon Shaull, a Waynesboro native who is active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Shaull, a 2023 graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School, continued his education at Hagerstown Community College, where he earned an A.A. degree in mechanical engineering technology.
While in high school, he was active in soccer, basketball and track, and continued to participate at HCC. He had hoped to go on to a four-year school and continue his athletic activities but said he ran into difficulty getting some of his credits transferred to four-year schools and decided to seek other opportunities.
Having participated in FCA in high school, he decided to serve at some of the organization’s sports camps in New Jersey and said he discovered a passion for serving younger athletes and helping them attain their goals. FCA is a gospel-fueled group that tries to guide athletes toward positive behavior and activities.
Shaull mentioned a high school athlete from Philadelphia that he’d worked with as an example of a young person who really seemed to take the group’s message to heart.
He is currently working toward a fund-raising goal of $80,000 to try and establish an FCA “huddle” program in the Franklin County area. A Fellowship of Christian Athletes “huddle” is a small-group ministry program where athletes and coaches gather regularly to study the Bible, pray and grow in their faith. They function as localized communities of support, training and discipleship designed for competitors at the youth, high school, collegiate and professional levels
