Waynesboro jumps three spots in MPC Colonial match

WAYNESBORO – Call it home course advantage, or just a drastic improvement in the second Mid-Penn Colonial Division match.

Playing at Waynesboro Country Club this past Monday afternoon, Waynesboro improved by a whopping 25 strokes to finish third out of seven teams. The hosts tied with James Buchanan with a collective score of 332.

Landon Crable and Caiden Shacreaw led the way with identical scores of 81. Rylan Nichols snapped at their heels with 82, and Dom Goodworth rounded out the top four scorers with an 88.

“Landon and Caiden led the way for the team,” said Waynesboro coach Ryan Henderson. “Landon has been the most consistent so far. Caiden improved from the last match after practicing on his putting. Rylan also did great with his 82.

“Hopefully, this trend will continue, and we can continue to finish no worse than the middle of the pack or above.”

From early results, it appears that Northern York is again the class of the division. The Polar Bears carded an impressive 312, finishing nine strokes ahead of runner-up Shippensburg.

Greencastle-Antrim finished fifth with 347, followed by Gettysburg at 348 and Big Spring with 366.

Northern finished with three golfers scoring in the 70s: Garrett Mainhart (76), Kooper Cunningham (77), and Logan White (78). That kind of performance will make it virtually impossible for teams to overtake Northern.

If anyone can do it, it might be Shippensburg. The Greyhounds also had three linksters card scores in the 70s – Ben Horgos (78), Kayde Beckenbaugh (79), and Brayden Mitchell (79).

James Buchanan’s Taylor Blair was the top overall scorer with 75. Teammate Abram Stock shot 78.

After two division matches, Northern is 12-0. Shippensburg follows at 9-3. Then comes James Buchanan at 8-4, Waynesboro and Greencastle at 5-7, Gettysburg at 3-9, and Big Spring at 0-12.

The next league meet is scheduled for 2 p.m. on August 22 at Range End Golf Club in Dillsburg and will be hosted by the division-leading Polar Bears. Range End is a 6,495-yard, par-71 course with five par-5 holes and nine par-4 holes.
