Waynesboro Indians rebound, beat Shippensburg 49-39

WAYNESBORO – A day after a disappointing loss to Big Spring on Pack the House Night, the Waynesboro varsity boys’ basketball team rebounded to defeat Shippensburg, 49-39, in a Mid-Penn Colonial Division game on Tuesday.

Grant Thompson carried the team on his back as he finished with a game-high 21 points. Thompson was 8 for 11 shooting. He added 11 rebounds to record a double-double.

It took a while for the Indians to get things going in front of the home crowd as the Greyhounds led 14-12 after the first quarter. However, Waynesboro outscored Shippensburg 14-6 in the second quarter and never really looked back the rest of the game.

Shippensburg made only 16 of 50 field goals in the game (32 percent). The Greyhounds attempted 24 three-point field goals and made five of them.

Waynesboro (9-10) also struggled from the field, shooting 33 percent (18 of 54). The Indians were 3 for 16 from the three-point arc but did make 10 of 16 free throws.

Both teams committed 16 turnovers in the game.

Rayshawn Frazer-Hewitt tallied 10 points for Waynesboro, who have won five of the last six games and play at Greencastle-Antrim on Friday in a league game.
