WAYNESBORO— Waynesboro ushered in the holiday season with one of its largest parades to date, held in downtown Waynesboro on Saturday, Nov. 22. With more than 80 units participating, judges faced the challenge of selecting winners across several competitive categories.
In the Amateur Float category, the Waynesboro Area YMCA secured the first-place prize. Martin’s Food Store was awarded second place, followed by Ronnie Martin Realty in third.
The marching bands delivered fierce competition for the top spots. The James Buchanan High School Marching Band was honored with first place. The Chambersburg Trojan Marching Band earned second place, and the McConnellsburg High School Marching Band rounded out the category in third place.
Majorettes also impressed the judges. The Spinning Illusions took first place, with Superstar Twirlers receiving the second-place distinction.
In the Walking Units category, the Majestic All Stars earned first place. Silver Star Saddle was recognized for second place, and Otterbein’s Seraphim Dance Ministry placed third.
The parade featured a broad array of participants from the local area and beyond. Among the many other units included were marching bands from Southern Fulton Jr. & Sr. and Western Heights Middle School Band; churches such as Rouzerville Christian Church, Waynesboro New Church, and St. Andrews; and youth programs like A & B Dance Dimensions, Pen Mar Youth League, and Rainbow Gymnastics.
Local fire and rescue companies also participated, including the Borough of Waynesboro Fire Co., Waynesboro Volunteer Fire Co., Blue Ridge Fire and Rescue Company, Mont Alto Fire Dept., and Smithsburg Fire Co., along with the Waynesboro Ambulance.
The massive celebration cemented the Waynesboro Christmas parade as a highlight of the season for the community.
