WAYNESBORO – Sunday, Dec. 14, was a special day for the Waynesboro Volunteer Fire Department and the Grinch Project as items designed to ensure a Merry Christmas were delivered. Earlier this year, the two partnered to fund-raise and provide clothing, toys and sensory toys for students in the Waynesboro Area School District.
And starting tonight through Wednesday, Dec. 17, a Waynesboro fire truck and Grinch will be out and about in Waynesboro neighborhoods spreading holiday cheer. These travels will start at 6 and end about 8.
On Nov. 29, the two groups’ breakfast fund-raiser was held to provide financing for this project. Additionally, donors in this community supported the project generously, said Waynesboro Chief John Beck.
Cash and fundraising donations totaled $5,993, with toys and food donations of another $1,000. Through these generous donations, the WVFD was able to fulfill requests for students in need at Hooverville, Summitview, Fairview and Mowery Elementary schools.
And since donations exceeded expectations, the department was able to provide a check in the amount of $1,200 to the Waynesboro Community and Human Services.
The department expressed “a huge thank you” to the following donors:
