WAYNESBORO. — The Waynesboro Area Senior High School Maidens gymnastics team secured a decisive victory over Central High School on Thursday, Dec. 11, at the Garver meet. Waynesboro finished with a final team score of 124.15, handily defeating Central’s 62.
Maidens standout Emma Hotchkiss was a dominant force, taking first place in the vault, uneven bars, balance beam and the all-around competition. Central’s Kara Weidlich was a consistent challenger throughout the evening, claiming second place in the vault, bars, beam and all-around.
Waynesboro gymnasts swept the top five spots in the vault competition. Hotchkiss led the way in first, followed by Central’s Weidlich in second. Waynesboro’s Lily McDonnell, Ellie Cieri and Katelyn Haynie rounded out the top five.
The Maidens maintained their strength on the uneven bars. Hotchkiss once again took the top spot, with Weidlich placing second. Cieri finished third, while McDonnell and Central’s Layla Hoover took fourth and fifth, respectively.
On the balance beam, Hotchkiss secured her third first-place finish. Weidlich followed in second, and Hoover placed third. Waynesboro’s Megean Keyser and McDonnell finished fourth and fifth.
The floor exercise was the only event not won by a Waynesboro gymnast. Hoover took first place for Central, followed by Hotchkiss in second. McDonnell placed third, and Waynesboro’s Karaline Henry and Weidlich took fourth and fifth, respectively.
Hotchkiss finished the meet by taking the top honor in the all-around competition. Weidlich finished second, followed by Waynesboro’s McDonnell in third. Hoover placed fourth, and Cieri took fifth to complete the competition.
