WAYNESBORO – Six “stars” were honored this week at the Second Annual Waynesboro Chamber of Commerce Breakfast Awards at the Joe Stickell American Legion. The event was held on Thursday, Nov. 6.
The event was sponsored by some of the region’s premier businesses and organizations including Penn National Insurance, Patriot Federal Credit Union, WellSpan Health, M&T Bank, Musselman & Creager LLP, Middletown Valley Bank, Manitowoc, Martz, Graphics Universal, F&M Trust, Blue Ridge Risk Partners and NewsTalk 103.7FM.
After a hearty breakfast and socializing, the ceremony began with emcee Michael Cermak Jr., who kicked things off before being surprised as recipient of the Business Person of the Year Award sponsored by Middletown Valley Bank. Cermak’s wife, Heather; mother, Sandie; and father, Mike Cermak Sr., were on hand at the event to see him receive the award.
Waynesboro Construction, Inc. received the Heritage Award, sponsored by Martz Plumbing, celebrating 125 years of service to the Waynesboro community.
The Small Business of the Year Award was presented to McLaughlin’s Energy Services and was sponsored by Graphics Universal. The third-generation business has been providing fueling services the region since 1954.


The Blue Ridge Risk Partners sponsored the Trailblazer Award, which is given to a company that has been in existence for less than five years and stands out for their outstanding service. This year the award was presented to the Michaux Brewing Company.
The Non-Profit of the Year Award, which was sponsored by F&M Trust was awarded to Buttonwood Nature Center. The nature preserve not only provides an excellent place for community members to explore nature but also provides educational and entertainment programs for local schools and organizations.
The final award presented was the Chamber Champion Award and it was presented to Janet Pollard of the Franklin County Visitor Bureau. The award was sponsored by Manitowoc and was given to Pollard for her years of service to the Franklin County tourist service.
In attendance for the event were a few of the community’s elected officials including state Rep. Chad Reichard (R-Franklin) and the newly re-elected mayor of Waynesboro, Dade Royer (R).
