WAYNE HEIGHTS—The Washington Township Board of Supervisors met recently to discuss a variety of issues.
The supervisors received a draft financial report from Boyer & Ritter for Year Ending December 31, 2021. According to Karen Hargrave, township treasurer, the township did very well and is looking forward to the final report.
The board approved a request from Police Chief Mike McGovern to change a requirement, requiring officers to live within a 12-air mile radius of the station to a 25-air mile radius. The purpose is to enlarge the recruiting area and reduce disincentives to apply for officer positions.
The supervisors also accepted donations from the Rouzerville Lions Club in the amount of $4,000 for the Pine Hill rest rooms, and several contributions by Walmart to the Police Department at an estimated value of $170.
The board approved a request from the YMCA for permission and support of their 7th Annual Strokes, Spokes and Strides Triathlon on Saturday, Jun 11th, from 7:45 a.m. to noon.
The supervisors approved a request from the Blue Ridge Summit Free Library for its 9th Annual 5K Race / Walk on Saturday, July 16th from 8 – 10 a.m. The race involves a route utilizing township streets and roads, with fire police and race Marshalls managing traffic and directing runners.
At Assistant Manager Vern Ashway’s recommendation, the board approved reinstating a full-time position in the Parks Department.
The Washington Township Board of Supervisors will meet for a workshop at 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 13, in the township building on Welty Road.
