HAGERSTOWN, Md. — Washington County Government invites residents to attend a Flag Day ceremony in on Sunday, June 14, beginning at 10 a.m. at 18350 Public Safety Place in Hagerstown.
Observed each year on June 14, Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the United States flag by the Continental Congress in 1777. The resolution established the design of the flag as 13 stripes, alternating red and white, with 13 stars on a blue field representing a new constellation of states.
Over time, the flag has evolved to reflect the growth of the nation while remaining a symbol of unity, freedom and sacrifice.
As the nation marks 250 years of independence, residents are invited to gather under the flag that has united generations of Americans to honor the nation’s history and reflect on the principles that continue to guide its future.
