HAGERSTOWN, Md. — Washington County commissioners will consider a series of contracts involving courthouse security, county technology systems and improvements at the county detention center when they meet Tuesday, Oct. 13.
The meeting begins at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Administration Complex in Hagerstown. The agenda includes items ranging from procurement decisions to community presentations and recognition of the county’s Farm of the Year.
Courthouse, detention center improvements
The commissioners will consider accepting a security grant from the Maryland Administrative Office of the Courts for Washington County Circuit Court.
They also will consider awarding a facilities design contract for heating, ventilation and air conditioning improvements at the Washington County Detention Center. County Engineering Director Scott Hobbs and Sheriff Brian Albert are scheduled to present the proposal.
Technology purchases
Commissioners will consider several technology-related contracts, including renewal of an information technology service agreement, purchases of Dell computers and continued use of electronic plan-review and permitting software.
Another proposal involves purchasing fiber cameras and access-control equipment for the Division of Emergency Services.
The Board of Zoning Appeals is also seeking a contract for professional legal services, while the county’s Local Management Board is requesting a consultant to help strengthen its organizational capacity.
Commissioners will consider rejecting bids for replacement access doors at the Conococheague Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Groups detail yearly activity
The Hagerstown/Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau will present its annual report, while representatives of the Washington County Community Coalition will review their work during 2026 and request support for 2027.
Hagerstown Community College President James Klauber will discuss the college’s dental hygiene program, including savings available to residents who receive services at its clinic.
The American Red Cross will announce a Nov. 7 smoke alarm installation event in the Funkstown area. Residents who need replacement alarms or batteries may qualify for installation of up to three free smoke alarms with 10-year batteries.
Commissioners also will recognize Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Character Counts! Month and present the county’s 2026-27 Farm of the Year award.
The board is scheduled to enter closed session at 11:10 a.m. to discuss potential property acquisitions for road and traffic safety improvements and receive legal advice.
