GREENCASTLE, Pa. — The Greencastle-Antrim Blue Devils sported pink in their uniforms Friday night in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month as they hosted Milton Hershey before a crowd of nearly 1,000 spectators.
The Blue Devils fell 27-19 in a Mid-Penn Colonial Division football game. Milton Hershey improved to 3-4 overall and 3-1 in the division, while Greencastle-Antrim fell to 4-3 and 2-2.
The Spartans opened the scoring on a 14-yard touchdown run by Shane Aycox with 4:13 left in the first quarter. The extra-point attempt failed, leaving Milton Hershey ahead 6-0.
Greencastle-Antrim took the lead early in the second quarter when Spencer Long scored on a 1-yard run and Blake Witmer added the extra point.
Aycox answered with a 16-yard touchdown run, and quarterback Kamari Cooper connected with Jayden Pinkney for a two-point conversion to give the Spartans a 14-7 advantage.
Long brought the Blue Devils back within a point with a 44-yard touchdown run with 3:44 remaining in the first half. The extra-point attempt was blocked, leaving Milton Hershey with a 14-13 lead at halftime.
The Spartans continued their ground-and-pound attack in the third quarter, extending their lead to 20-13 on a 10-yard touchdown run. Their two-point conversion attempt failed.
Milton Hershey added another touchdown in the fourth quarter when Cooper, whose scrambling ability challenged the Blue Devils’ defense throughout the game, scored on a 5-yard run with 3:36 remaining. The extra point pushed the lead to 27-13.
Greencastle-Antrim responded when quarterback Gavin Logsdon connected with Iverson Stoner on a 21-yard touchdown pass with 1:37 remaining. The extra-point attempt was blocked, leaving the Blue Devils trailing 27-19.
The Blue Devils will travel to Trinity (4-3) next Friday for another Mid-Penn Colonial Division contest. Greencastle-Antrim’s final home game is scheduled for Oct. 30 against Middletown.
