HAGERSTOWN – A major drug distribution operation was dismantled on Friday, Sept. 5, by the Washington County Narcotics Task Force, with support from the Special Response Team and Hagerstown Police Department’s drone operations.
The officers executed search and seizure warrants at two apartments, 132 S. Locust St., Apartment 2, and 368 S. Cannon Ave., Apartment 1, which were linked to a single individual operating out of both residences. The investigation, which began in July, uncovered a significant cache of illegal substances and weapons, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Department.
Authorities seized approximately four pounds of cocaine, two pounds and 10.5 ounces of fentanyl, a loaded Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun, a loaded Smith and Wesson 9 mm handgun with an obscured serial number, a loaded .32-caliber revolver, drug paraphernalia, ammunition and over $13,000 in cash.
Two individuals were arrested during the operation.
Timothy Grimes, 57, of Hagerstown, faces multiple charges, including possession with intent to distribute cocaine and fentanyl, possession of a large amount of controlled substances, firearm possession during a drug trafficking crime, and knowingly altering a firearm’s identification number.
Heather Schnebly, 39, also of Hagerstown, was charged with possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia. The Task Force had been investigating drug distribution activities at the two apartments since May, identifying one suspect with connections to both locations.
Established in 1986, the Task Force is a collaborative effort between the Hagerstown Police Department and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, with some agents deputized by the Drug Enforcement Administration.
This partnership with a federal agency enhances the county’s ability to combat drug trafficking across the tri-state area, officers noted. The task force relies heavily on a community tipline (301-223-2632), processed through their Drug Track database, to identify and prioritize investigations, highlighting the critical role of public cooperation in operations like this one.
Officials said the successful operation marks a significant blow to local drug trafficking, with authorities continuing to investigate to ensure community safety.
