HAGERSTOWN— Washington County residents are invited to a free Trunk or Treat event Wednesday evening, offering a safer alternative to traditional trick-or-treating with plenty of candy, contests and community spirit.
The event, organized by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Washington County Parks & Recreation in partnership with Hagerstown Community College, runs from 6 to 8 p.m. at the college’s Athletic and Recreation Center gymnasium, located at 20175 Scholar Drive.
Attendees can expect decorated vehicle trunks handing out treats, a coloring contest for young participants and a costume contest to showcase creative outfits. Organizers emphasize a “more fun, less scary” atmosphere, aiming to provide family entertainment without the typical Halloween frights.
“This gathering is all about building community ties while keeping the holiday lighthearted,” said a representative from the Sheriff’s Office in a promotional release. No registration is required, and the event is open to all ages.
Washington County officials have promoted similar low-key Halloween activities in recent years to promote safety amid rising concerns over pedestrian traffic and darker evening hours. Last year’s Trunk or Treat drew hundreds of families, according to Parks & Recreation records.
